Creativity is...seeing something that doesn't exist already. You need to find out how you can bring it into being and that way be a playmate with God. -- Michele Shea

TIP #14: "DRAW" WITH YOUR HAND BEFORE YOU DRAW ON YOUR PAPER.

Do a "phantom drawing" of your image with your hand onto your support before you ever make a line.  This enables you to "see" the placement and elements of your subject much more accurately.

TIP #13:  "WRONG" EQUALS RIGHT !

Amaze yourself and get warmed up for right brained artwork by doing a modified contour or gesture drawing with your nondominant or "wrong" hand.  You may be surprised at how well you do, plus you will go quickly into rightbrain mode.

TIP #12:  "SPANK" YOUR PASTEL PAINTING.

To keep your pastel painting from rudely flaking off onto the glass or the mat, "spank" the back of the piece gently but firmly several times, with the painting facing toward the ground.  Of course, you should do this outdoors, and watch which way the wind is blowing!
TIP # 11--GEL PENS ON COLORED PAPER:

Use metallic gel pens to draw on the great acid-free colored papers available for "scrap-booking".  Why should they have all the fun?  Try layering and cross-hatching, as well as other pen techniques, to achieve your desired effects.  A great way to experiment with new ideas in color and composition!

These are great materials to take with you on airplane flights and the finished products make SUPER greeting cards for a special friend!  (either 1/2 or 1/4 sheet size)

Using this approach enables you to practice drawing, make wonderful greeting cards or frameable art, and give affordable original art to your friends and relatives or someone else you'd like to honor!

All materials are readily available at your local store that everyone shops at but gets mad at for being so big.

TIP #10--A GREAT TRAINING TOOL:

Do modified contour drawing with colored Sharpie markers onto watercolor paper, randomly changing the color of the line.  The resulting drawing will be pleasingly distorted AND already contain color.  The drawing can be left "as is" or painted with watercolors and acrylics for a more finished painting.
